Elon Musk Wants to Test Brain Implants in People
In Wednesday's presentation, Elon Musk touted a brain implant intended to connect the human mind to a computer.
According to Christina Jewett and Cade Metz of The New York Times, the device, now being developed by his company Neuralink, has not received approval for sale from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Musk said Wednesday that the company believes he has submitted "most" of the paperwork required by the FDA and that Neuralink hopes he can begin human testing of the device within six months.
Musk had previously underestimated that number. According to Planche Verma of The Washington Post, he had previously said human experiments would begin in 2020 and 2022. According to CNN's Jackie Wattles, the company's other companies, SpaceX and Tesla has reportedly missed the self-imposed deadlines to send a Mars rocket into space and self-driving cars on the road.
